COBURN BRASS is a quintet
of musicians from Centre County,PA that love to play the Civil War period
music. They have played together for many years in other musical
groups, with two of us (second cousins) having played together off-and-on
for 50-plus years. We started Coburn Brass in November 1996 to play for
the Aaronsburg Historical Museum Association's program: Civil War Heritage,
Penns and Brush Valleys. Since then we have been playing about fifteen
times a year for events, i.e. the Haines Twp. Fall Festival, Curtin
Village open house, Boalsburg Memorial Day (site of founding of Decoration
Day in 1864), Boalsburg Heritage Museum, Civil War Service at Historic
SWAMP Church, Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, Centre Hall Grange Fair 125th
Anniversary, People's Choice Arts Festival and many more. The quintet
is as follows: Bill Fatula - E-flat Cornet, Gro Torsethaugeh - B-flat
Cornet, Guy Rachau - E-flat Alto ( and C Ophicleide), Robert Rachau - B-flat
tenor trombone and John Henninger - E-flat helicon bass. We are available
for civil war and other patriotic events, as well as other community activities.
